Open Call
Open Newsrooms is asking the people it is meant to serve to help shape the project while its main decisions are still open. Journalists, newsrooms and press-freedom organisations can help decide which tools it should adopt or build, and how it is run; engineers, security researchers and designers can help build those tools. There are three ways to take part, from a seat in the founding working group to a few lines of feedback.
Join the working group
The founding working group meets this autumn, bringing together independent media and press-freedom organisations from Europe and further afield.
Over several online sessions, members will help decide what the platform should do and how it should be governed. Taking part is free and carries no obligation. The group is also expected to form the basis of a consortium applying for joint European funding.
Thank you. We have your expression of interest and will be in touch before the first session.
If you build things
Open Newsrooms needs hackers who want their work to protect people, security researchers willing to break it before an adversary does, designers who can make difficult tools easy to use, and maintainers who understand that software only matters while someone keeps it running.
Tell us what you would bring. Every message gets a reply.
Received. A member of the team will reply to you personally.
If you don't have time for the working group
Open Newsrooms is being built for journalists, newsrooms and civic organisations, and few of them can spare several evenings for a working group. Feedback does not have to wait for a meeting: a few lines on what works in a newsroom, and what does not, can be sent at any time.
Every message is read by a member of the team building the tools.
Thank you. Your feedback is with the team, and we read every message.
